3 Ways to Know You’ve Landed on a Million Dollar Idea

In Collaboration with Ine-Wilme Coetzee

It’s 9:17pm on a Wednesday night. You turned your lights out over 45 minutes ago, but you find yourself tossing and turning in an almost feverish delight from all the brilliant ideas swirling in your head.

One minute, you vividly imagine yourself on stage, a disco ball rhythmically flashing every couple of seconds, speaking at your own women’s business conference, the next minute you think of what it would be like to finally launch your group coaching program for working moms to give them balance, seeing their faces in the first zoom orientation call, holding their breath to hear you speak. Then you shift to how you finally want to have a sales event that converts every single time, something you can trust…

All of a sudden, in the midst of all the ideas you catch a vision of your little boy’s big blue eyes framed with long dark lashes looking up at you with a smile that could melt gold. YOUR WHY.

You take a deep breath and think, “if I only knew that my ideas would work. That they would sell enough to actually allow us to finally build our dream A-frame cabin with enough rooms for the babies we want to have… If I only knew that my business would not take me away from my family.”

“If I only knew if I have landed on a Million Dollar Idea.” And with a sigh you fall asleep for the 949th night in a row, not satisfied with your work that day.

Well, with that thought I have some absolutely fantastic news for you. Today, I’m breaking down 3 ways to know if you’ve landed on a Million Dollar Idea so that you CAN create the business of freedom you desire—through the lens of three of my favorite minds in business: Elon Musk, Sarah Blakely, and Melanie Perkins. Their perspectives couldn’t be more different… and that’s exactly why this works.

3 Ways to Know You’ve Landed on a Million Dollar Idea

(According to 3 of my favourite minds in business)

💥 1. It Feels a Little Crazy… But You Know It’s Game-Changing

(Inspired by Elon Musk - CEO of Tesla and SpaceX)

Sometimes the biggest ideas don’t feel safe—they feel like a cold sweat and a tight chest… because they carry massive potential. If the idea gives you butterflies and makes you want to hide under the covers and run through a wall at the same time? You're probably onto something.

Here’s what to look for:

  • It feels bigger than you, like it could genuinely change someone’s life (or business).

  • It’s 10x better than what already exists—bolder, cleaner, faster, more transformative.

  • It scares you a little… but in your gut, you know it’s time. (P.S. if you are still waiting, then read to the end to get the solution you have been waiting for!)

💬 “When something is important enough, you do it even if the odds are not in your favor.” — Elon Musk

❤️ 2. It Comes from Your Frustration—and It’s Personal

(Inspired by Sara Blakely - Founder & Executive Chairwoman of Spanx)

Million dollar ideas don’t start in boardrooms. They start in bathrooms—or closets—or nap time brain spirals. They’re born in real-life friction points you're quietly pushing under the bed, hoping they’ll disappear so you can sleep tonight. But if you’re willing to feel that frustration fully (I made you a resource for that 👇), innovation can finally flow.

Here’s what to look for:

  • You’re solving a problem you’ve actually lived through—one that still makes your jaw clench or heart ache.

  • You can start small, test fast—no waiting for perfect branding or big capital.

  • It’s not about being polished—it’s about being honest, human, and led by your heart.

💬 “What you don’t realize is that there’s a whole other group of people out there who want to buy from your heart.” — Sara Blakely

📈 3. It’s So Simple… It’s An Obvious YES

(Inspired by Melanie Perkins - Co-founder & CEO of Canva)

A million dollar idea isn’t always flashy—it’s clear. It doesn’t need paragraphs to explain. It just clicks. It makes someone say: Oh. I need that. Simplicity isn’t basic—it’s brilliant. And when something is simple and scalable? You’ve got magic. (Just like Canva. It is simple, easy to use and a no-brainer to solve the problem business owners face everyday. Making design beautiful AND easy).

Here’s what to look for:

  • You’re solving a universal, recurring problem that people face every day.

  • You’ve stripped it down to its essence—no fluff, no friction.

  • It can grow without burning you out—think templates, digital offers, group programs, tech tools. (Sometimes it’s important to start with something non-scalable like 1:1 coaching, but you’ll get an opportunity for coaching around that below… 👀)

💬 “It’s not about being in love with your solution. It’s about being in love with the problem.” — Melanie Perkins

Now It’s Your Turn…

If even one of those topics or quotes stirred something in you…

A quiet yes, a gut-level knowing, or that flicker of “mmm, I think I could figure this out, really do it this time…”

Then it’s time to stop swirling and start building.
