6 Things I Thought Were Just Normal (But Apparently Are Salesgirl Social Behavior)

The older I get, the more I realize how rare it is to love what you do. To feel proud of your ideas. To be excited to wake up, even if you snooze an alarm or 3 (me).

But around here? That’s the default.

When you spend your day talking to ambitious women, you start to forget that not everyone wants to be great. Not everyone loves work. Not everyone has dreams in their Notes app.

And that’s why we made Salesgirl Social… to make sure you have your people, even if it’s virtual for now. A space where ambition isn’t just accepted, it’s assumed.

Here are 6 things I’ve done for years and truly thought were universal, until I realized they’re not. But maybe they are for us:

#1. I write a daily newsletter that hypes women up before work.
In addition to my full-time job. LOL Because that’s how much I care that the girlies who love to watch movies, quote reality TV, and overanalyze internet trends also know they can have real impact. You can be the most pop culture-informed person in the group chat and the most successful. You can love media and love your work. And the fact that you’re reading this? Says a lot. You're not here to coast. You're here to go big and have fun doing it. ILY for that.

#2. I romanticize my career like it’s a coming-of-age movie.
I don’t have 4 meetings, I have pivotal scenes. I’m a big corporate girlie in a Hallmark movie. I light a candle before writing an email. I’ve worn my favorite outfit to sit at my own kitchen table. And yes, I’ve walked into a coffee shop with my laptop like I’m in a Nancy Meyers film. Because sometimes… I am.

#3. I love work. Like actually.
Not tolerating it. Not clocking in, clocking out. But looking forward to it. I get inspired in the shower. I send myself voice memos while driving. I’ve said, “Give me 20 more minutes, I’m on a roll” more times than I can count.

#4. I pause mid-scroll to save posts… for research.
When I see something that works, I don’t just heart it… I study it. Why did that hook hit? What was the structure? Would that work for my audience? My saved folder is chaos and recipes I’ll never make, but it’s also full of clues.

#5. I’ve always felt like I’m supposed to help build something meaningful.
Not necessarily my own thing, but something I believe in. I love being part of a bigger mission and bringing my own voice, ideas, and strategy to the table. I want to move the needle. I want to make things better. I want to take something good and help turn it into great. That’s what I get to do with The Salesgirls and I know a lot of you feel the same way in your work, too.

#6. I make decisions based on what would make my future self proud.
She’s always in the room. And I want her to look at how I’m showing up today and say, “Yes. Keep going. This is it.” My 16 year old self would not believe the life we’re living right now, and that’s one of my biggest metrics for success.

If you see yourself in any of these: I’m so glad you’re here.

You’re not too much. You’re not alone. And you’re not the only one who’s obsessed with what’s possible.

We are, too.

Xo, The Salesgirls

PS. Forward this to the friend in your life who also gets excited about highlighters, business books, and main character energy. She’s probably one of us.
