A Copywriter and Entrepreneur's 4 Favorite Instagram Follows
That you've probably never hear of!
I do not follow any of the big influencers on social media.
It’s not because I think their content is bad, it’s just that I don’t enjoy getting inundated with shopping hauls and discount codes. Plus, most of the popular content creators all end up promoting the same brands, so unless I genuinely enjoy their personality, I will not be !!smashing that subscribe button!!
Instead, I like to fill my feed with content and creators who have a smaller audience or aren’t considered influencers at all. I just think they’re doing cool things and they give me more inspiration than any discount code for HelloFresh could.
A selfish part of me wanted to gatekeep these accounts and keep these cool girls to myself but there’s no fun in that. Sharing is caring. ✨
I love Garden and Gun’s brand. Ally does an amazing job with their content as the Social Media Director. On her personal account she posts a lot of work BTS, events in Charleston, and her own personal woes of working in the world of social media. At least give @gardenandgun a follow to see how well she markets their brand with authentic storytelling.
This is a new account I recently found and I’m so obsessed. She took her experience as a copywriter and created this small tote bag business in NYC. It’s just beyond perfect. She’s not a content creator by any stretch, but I rarely get to see women in my exact line of work on social media. (PS - Should I tap into that market?) Finding her account gave me inspiration that maybe someday I could take this gift of writing beyond my couch and laptop.
I found Gaby when I went through a phase of following Architectural Digest. She writes articles for their publication as a freelance writer. I mean, literal goals…? Her IG account is equal parts work and writing mixed with her personal life living in LA. She also has a YouTube channel where I get a lot of inspiration with how she approaches her freelance career and social content.
If you’ve never read one of Amanda’s books, I highly recommend. She does a beautiful job blending research and storytelling. Same as Gaby, I love following her because her content is a mix of personal life and work. I never want my social media (mainly IG) to feel like a digital billboard of self-promotion and she seems to do a good job mixing the two. As a writer, I love following other women who have achieved big things in this field, and she is one I respect a ton.
I hope you love these girls as much as I do. And if you don’t keep it to yourself, ok!
Follow people who inspire you. Your social media feed is your sacred space. Since we spend a lot of time scrolling, I think we all need to protect the energy of who we’re seeing everyday.
Unfollow at your discretion and mute when it’s too much. There are no rules. Social media is not that serious!
