A Spoiler Free Review of Nobody Wants This
but if you really don’t want to know anything, watch first and bookmark this for later!
It’s been more than a minute since a show has been as universally loved as the new Netflix series, Nobody Wants This.
You may have noticed the shift in mainstream media recently, where they seem to be creating content for millennials.
As a 1990 baby, I love it!
Nobody Wants This is for us.
Seth Cohen, Veronica Mars, the most perfect first kiss, and plenty of laugh-out-loud moments = rom-com gold.
While the hot rabbi’s kitchen is now the focal point of my vision board, here are some of my favorite and most relatable moments from the 10 episode series:
#1. Joanne trying to describe her podcast to an older generation.
“Yes it is about sex, but it is also about so much more,” is something every salesgirl can relate to when describing how you own your own business.
#2. Siblings being described as your best friend and worst enemy.
I don’t know if I have ever heard the sibling experience summed up so completely in 5 words. We love them and also why are they even like that?
#3. The relationship both main characters have with their parents.
Noah respects his parent's religion and beliefs while standing firm in “this is what I want”… something I may be working on in therapy 💀. Joanne accepts her parents for who they are but continues to place boundaries that suit her: “Mom, you can’t text us when you do shrooms.”
#4. Realizing your 14-year-old self, and 30-year-old self have the same crush- oh hey Adam Brody!
The metamorphosis of Seth Cohen to Noah is one we didn’t know we needed. I saw a TikTok that dissected the reason we adore this couple so much is both characters are healthy, mature and self-assured in their own right. They know their values, beliefs and what they deserve- something we all aspire to find. The real question now, can chemistry and love conquer all?
#5. The Kiss!
While binging everything I could on this show (I may have obsession issues), I saw Kristen Bell explain the reason “The Kiss” turned out so well is you have two actors dedicated to making the moment special. They were both willing to go so over the top, because that is what’s required to make something spectacular. Made me wonder- where in my life could I be going more over the top?
I will simply have to rewatch the series, listen to the Spotify playlist and binge “The World’s First Podcast” until season two drops- thank goodness they have already entered the writing room!
