This Saturday, March 8, is International Women’s Day. A day to celebrate the women who’ve shattered ceilings, rewritten the rules, and redefined what’s possible. It is also my birthday which I don’t take likely and how I knew for sure it was my obligation to start Salesgirl Social, the weekday newsletter celebrating and setting women up to win - in life and business.
I take my own, subjective interpretation of a ‘sign’ very seriously.

Since I spend Saturdays missing you guys and making sure my 4-year old isn’t peeing in public, I figured we should start the celebration now.
Because from boardrooms to basements where big ideas are born, women have been breaking barriers and building careers on their own terms for centuries.
Today we’re tipping our hats (and raising our coffee cups) to a few women, past and present, who’ve raised the bar for working women everywhere - proving that success isn’t about fitting into someone else’s mold but creating a new one altogether.
Fashion & Business: Diane von Fürstenberg

The queen of the wrap dress and a legend in the business world. DVF turned a single design into an empire and became a champion for women owning their power. Her motto is living well and being fabulous and what is there to argue with about that?
Writing & Media: Barbara Walters

She asked the tough questions, paved the way for women in journalism, and proved that having a seat at the table means using your voice. Her last words before passing in 2022 were, “no regrets - I had a great life.” Goals in more ways than one.
Science & Medicine: Dr. Virginia Apgar

Dr. Apgar revolutionized newborn care by creating the Apgar Score, a quick test still used today to assess a baby’s health right after birth. Her work in anesthesiology and obstetrics has saved countless infant lives and set the standard for neonatal care worldwide. All this work in a world without the internet is CRAZY.
Sports & Athletics: Venus Williams

Before equal pay was the norm in tennis, Venus Williams fought for it… and won. She used her platform to advocate for gender pay equity in sports, directly influencing Wimbledon’s 2007 decision to finally award equal prize money to women. I’m so thankful God gave us two Williams sisters.
Entrepreneurship & Tech: Madam C.J. Walker

The first self-made female millionaire in America. She built a beauty empire in the early 1900s, proving that women have belonged in business for a long time.
As we head into International Women’s Day, let’s celebrate the women who paved the way and remind ourselves that the future?
It’s ours to shape.
