Business Lessons I Learned from The Masters IG Account

A few years ago, I was following The Masters Instagram account during the iconic golf tournament and I started to notice something about their captions.

They were so…simple.

Under their stunning photos and videos were short captions like:

“Masters Wednesday.”

“Views from the grounds.”

“The first round is complete. The second round continues tomorrow.”

No fluff, just straightforward class – a brand strategy consistent with the Augusta National tradition that is clearly maintained on and off the course.

Their content tells the story and the captions are just the cherry on top, not the main character.

I needed, wanted, and had to know who was behind this account so I started commenting on their posts and slid into their DM’s to ask.

(One thing about me is that I’m not scared of a DM slide.)

I didn’t get a reply, but my comments were noticed by someone who owns a creative brand agency and we connected over the simplicity of the account’s content.

This conversation led to a business connection that I’m still partnering with two years later.

I have three main takeaways I’ve learned from this story:

  1. Don’t discount the comment section as a business strategy.

If you have something you want to say, put it in the comments of the brand or business you love. You never know who’s watching, following, or replying.

  2. Be yourself in every space.

I want my social media presence to reflect my personality as closely as possible. It’s a space for me to express who I am while also showcasing what I do. If a prospective client notices and relates to my random comment, then that means I’m being myself and those are the clients I want to work with.

  3. Copy is not the main character. It’s okay to keep it simple. Don’t overthink it.

I’ll see you in the comments I guess!
