Content is King, Copy is Queen
The Difference Between Copywriting and Content Writing
I’m back to yap about copywriting! Copy is my passion!
But really. I’m here to talk about copywriting versus content writing.
Contrary to popular belief, they are two different things.
When it comes to digital marketing, content writing is all about educating and entertaining your readers while copywriting is all about persuasion.
You’re writing content when you’re sharing what you do and why you do it.
Think: E-books, tutorials, email newsletters (like this one!), social media posts, and articles.
Versus copywriting, where you’re persuading your audience to take an action in your sales process.
Think: PPC landing pages and ads, social media ads, website sales copy, and sales emails.
And why is this differentiation important?
The answer is not because this kind of writing (content and copy) pays my bills.
You may have heard the phrase, “Content is king.”
But if content is king, then copy is Queen. Capital Q required.
All of this matters because we’re all selling something. And that means we’re all writing.
So, I leave you with this my Copy Creators…
David Ogilvy, the Father of Advertising once said, “You cannot bore people into buying your product.”
The good thing about writing, in any form, is that you’re allowed to have fun with it.
Your sales copy should reflect who you are as a person. Add that Salesgirl flare to it. People are buying from YOU after all.
Be the fun, quirky, warm, friendly, inviting Salesgirl (and writer) that you are!
Go make me proud.
