The Freelancers are Coming

how over half of the workforce is predicted to work for themselves and what you should know if you're wanting to take the leap

51% of the US workforce is predicted to made up of freelancers in the next 4 years.

A freelancer is simply anyone who is self-employed or working independently.

51%??????

You’re telling me that more than half of us are not gonna know how answer when Nanny asks “what exactly do you do for work again?”

Incredible. I find strange peace from that fact.

I asked a few of my favorite freelancers what they would tell someone who was thinking about taking the leap into freelancing and my head almost fell off my shoulders from the insane vigor of the nods. They all know, because they’ve all done it.

Here’s what they said:

“To use their gifts, talents and interests to their advantage.

I never thought my camp counselor experience could help me foster community inside a digital membership of 150+ women.

Who thought our obsession for Taylor could make so many women feel seen?

Start with one client and serve them so well they can’t help but to tell all their friends.”

- Olivia, freelance email strategist & co-founder of Olive Grove Community

“I would tell them that I am so proud of them, because it is a big, brave move.

Then would tell them the hardest part of doing something on your own is remembering to get out of your own way and just TAKE MESSY ACTION. You already have what it takes, so just put your head down and WORK!

Only give your favorite clients your cell #.

Don’t work from your bed, or it will mess up your sleep. 😂

Also! A good contract is everything- good fences make good neighbors!

Also also! Take the b-roll. Take the pics. No one cares what you look like and you’ll want to be able to look back over time and be like DANG.”

-Jordan, freelance digital ads specialist & founder of Launch with Jordan

“That they’ll never know if their parachute will come out until you jump off the cliff.

But its 100% guaranteed if you don’t jump it will not come out.”

-Ashley, freelance marketing expert & founder of Digital Marketing Academy

“I would say that the best way is to jump into it head first. Being thrown into new creative projects and forcing myself to figure things out as I went not only provided me incredible experience, but gave me so much confidence in my capabilities as a videographer. There is so much joy and freedom that comes with having the confidence to jump into new projects, even though it might seem scary!”

-Emma, freelance video expert & founder of Captured Media Co.

Don’t ask me how good I’ll be sleeping tonight knowing 50% of you are self-pay at the dentist too. Justice for people who left a bangin’ corporate benefits package so they wouldn’t have to take PTO for a haircut.

But also, how nice is it to have PTO?

Corporate and thriving 🤝 Freelancing forever
