After the Super Bowl, I swore I was done talking about the NFL until August.
But then the schedule release (a date I have never once marked on my calendar) turned into a full-blown content masterclass and we have to talk about it.
This didn’t used to be a thing, by the way.
Schedule releases were once dry press announcements and pixelated graphics with zero personality.
But in 2022, the Los Angeles Chargers changed the game with a chaotic, anime-style video that went wildly viral and ever since, teams have been raising the bar (and their production budgets). What started as a niche moment for internet nerds has become an all-out marketing showdown. And we’re all better for it.
Last week, the Baltimore Ravens dropped a full-on Severance parody you can watch here, complete with goats, existential dread, and better acting than some Hulu originals. Players in office chairs. A hauntingly sterile break room. And a Ben Stiller cameo… because why not?
The Jacksonville Jaguars? They said, “What if we turned every matchup into a moment from the Sabrina Carpenter tour?” And then they did it. See the magic here. Viral Juno choreo, glittery captions, and the Houston Texans as the ex you’re not over yet. To be fair, I know this was a woman’s idea.
This isn’t just sports.
This is storytelling.
This is content marketing.
This is a rare case of men being funny.
Shout out to the social and production teams who are clearly clocked in and caffeinated. You made a corporate rollout something I voluntarily shared in group texts and couldn’t wait to write about. That’s elite.
And to the rest of us? A reminder that even the most boring deliverables can become art in the right hands.
There is always room to repackage the expected and make it irresistible.
