I hit a Walgreen’s parking lot on two wheels this weekend which can only mean one thing…

The girls are back.
Before we were out here closing deals, making waves, and running businesses, a lot of the women reading this right now were slinging Thin Mints and Samoas with military precision.
In fact, many of the world’s most successful women got their first taste of sales, leadership, and entrepreneurship in the Girl Scouts.
Founded in 1912 by Juliette Gordon Low, the Girl Scouts of America set out to teach young girls self-sufficiency, confidence, and the skills they needed to lead. Over a century later, it's still shaping future moguls (including the savage who upsold me at Walgreens Saturday and this baddie). But we’re not just talking cookie sales…
If you think about it, being a Girl Scout is basically a solid career move in khakis and a sash. IF you needed another reason to justify dropping a week’s grocery budget on Thin Mints, allow me...
What Girl Scouts of America teaches young girls about life and business:
Resilience: Rejection is part of sales, and learning how to bounce back after a “no” is a skill that translates directly to business and leadership. I needed to hear this more as a child.
Confidence: From public speaking to negotiating sales, Girl Scouts develop the ability to stand tall and communicate effectively. Confident women change the world, period.
Goal-Setting: Earning badges and setting cookie sales goals teach young girls how to map out a plan and execute it… essential for any career, especially entrepreneurship.
Financial Literacy: Managing money, budgeting revenue, and making change on the spot help develop early financial skills. BTW, calculating $14 change on the spot also builds nerves of steel.
Teamwork & Leadership: Whether running a booth or leading a troop, girls learn how to collaborate, delegate, and take charge. I don’t use my college degree but I do use all of those things.
Some famous Girl Scouts you might recognize? Oprah Winfrey, Venus and Serena Williams, and Taylor Swift (!!). We also can’t forget business icons like Susan Wojcicki (former YouTube CEO) and Indra Nooyi (former PepsiCo CEO), who slung cookies and built global brands like the girlbossess bosses they are.
If you ever doubt the power of a childhood hustle, just remember: selling cookies might just be the gateway to a girl running an empire.
Have a conversation with your local gals selling cookies and let them know you’re proud of them and see their grind. Ask what they want to be when they grow up! Compliment their enthusiasm!
We all need each other whether we’re 7, 17, or 77. I stand by that.
Xo, The Salesgirls
Ps. I don’t usually get political in Salesgirl Social but since we’re here…
