The Hidden Brilliance Behind Post Malone's New Country Album
we're taking a few plays out of his book this time
How many times have you heard “teamwork makes the dream work”?
Allow me to introduce you to Austin Post. The man that super fans affectionately know as “Posty” and the world knows formally as Post Malone.
Don’t know him? Here’s a 3 sentence summary from Chat GPT to catch you up to speed:
Post Malone broke into the hip-hop and pop spaces in 2015. Today, he’s universally recognizable to music fans and you can buy t-shirts with his face on them at Hot Topic (that’s when you know you’ve made it).
Fast forward to 2024: Post Malone wanted to giddy up & go country. But how exactly do you pivot from face tattooed, gold chain wearing hip-hop star to belt buckles and cowboy hats?
We’d like to imagine this is how things went down:
Posty calls his friend Morgan Wallen with his dream and makes an epic mixtape collab called “I Had Some Help” (which broke Spotify’s single day country streaming record by the way).
Morgan sends it his friend Luke Combs…
Who calls Blake Shelton…
Who calls DOLLY PARTON…
Then all of the sudden he’s created an entire COUNTRY ALBUM with features from the genre’s biggest influences.
The man literally had some help.
How’s that for credibility?
But wait, there’s more.
Once his audience both new and old were warmed up from the album drop on August 16th, Posty drops a disc 2 called F1Trillion: Long Bed edition later that morning with all of HIS OWN SONGS to show them what he’s really made of and that he is in fact a country music star.
(Spoiler alert: Some of them are actually good.)
Wait… is Post Malone….a Salesgirl?
What does Posty teach us here?
#1. Who you surround yourself with makes you more credible.
Make friends in industries you’d like to be in. Pay to be in spaces to meet like-minded people. Ashley Brock said in her most recent podcast episode, “Somebody else has already been where you want to go, so pay someone to teach you how to get there faster.” That’ll preach.
#2. You can pivot successfully with a little strategy.
Post Malone has been on a journey to step away from pop/hip-hop for the last year or two. Who even knows if he’ll stay in country music. What I do know for sure though is that he will be successful whatever he does next because he knows how to effectively strategize a launch to create excitement and buy in.
#3. Create a brand that makes people excited for whatever you do next.
You may have heard us say this: people want to buy from you because of who you are, not what you do. Don’t be afraid to pull back the curtain and show the world who you are outside of the work that makes you money.
Giddy up & go get ‘em today.
