Happy Wednesday, we got you a skill.

VERY LAME… unless you know that good, genuine compliments build relationships, improve communication, motivate people, boost self-esteem and increase the confidence of the person giving the compliment.
So WHY do only 25% of people report receiving 2-5 compliments per week? That’s not even one compliment every other day. The other 75%? Even fewer.
No wonder everyone’s so sad.
Compliments are a secret weapon just collecting dust out here, and for what?
They’re a Swiss Army knife, and you’re only using the bottle opener.
The bottle opener is great. But let’s whip out the multipurpose corkscrew and mini screwdrivers just to feel something this week, shall we?
5/10 Compliments:
I love your hair.
You’re an amazing mom.
You’re a great leader.
I’m obsessed with those shoes.
You light up the room.
Nice! Sweet! Infinitely better than telling someone they suck. But they could be better.
Here’s how to upgrade a 5/10 compliment to a 10/10 compliment:
Add six words: “The reason I say that is…”
I love your hair. The reason I say that is, it frames your face perfectly!
You’re an amazing mom. The reason I say that is, I can tell by the questions you ask that your kids are your #1 priority.
You’re a great leader. The reason I say that is, you really listen to our feedback, and I can tell you take it into account when leading the team.
I’m obsessed with those shoes. The reason I say that is, ballet flats are so in right now!
You light up the room. The reason I say that is, you’re always the first to greet me in the mornings, and it makes my day.
More genuine. More specific. More believable. Less fluff.
🔥 Hot tip: You can absolutely tell people when they’re looking right n’ tight. Just don’t let it be the only reason you give or receive a compliment.
✔️ To cushion feedback
✔️ To soften the blow of not-great news
✔️ To get someone’s attention
✔️ To give encouragement
✔️ To positively reinforce a behavior
And since we’re here—“accepting compliments” made our 2025 IN list. All you have to do is say “thank you.”
No lightning strikes. No sudden loss of humility. Just thank you. Try it.
