IDK, what do you want?
Did you know that to DECIDE literally means to cut off all other options?
Seems a little dramatic but after some research it honestly makes total sense.
“Dramatic but surprisingly made sense” on my tombstone, please.
In an article by Darren Matthews, he suggests that a decision should do 3 big things:
#1. Fix existing problems
#2. Avoid future problems
#3. Seize future opportunities
Now I know it seems like being indecisive is “fUNnY AND cUte AND BeCauSe I’m An EnNeGram 3” or whatever, but imagine a life where you don’t try to fix any existing problems, avoid future problems or seize any opportunities?!
It’s total chaos and leaves you living in Limbo Land, with no direction. It's not cute.
All I can picture right now is that scene in The Notebook where she's screaming "it's not that simple!!!!" Team Noah but like I get where she was coming from fr.
Here's the thing: not making a decision is also a decision and believe me when I say it’s just about the only wrong one you can make.
In fact, at our office HQ, we have a rule. The only time you’ll get heat for a decision around here is if you don’t make one at all. If you make a decision and it ends up that it wasn’t the best choice? Awesome! Now we know. Let’s try it again using what we learned.
Next time you’re faced with a decision…
(and you won’t have to wait long because studies suggest we all make upwards of 30,000 decisions PER DAY and it has to be double that for moms omg)
the thing you should absolutely do is just make one.
A lot of people have core memories about their kid’s first trip to Disney World or their wedding day and I kind of have those too but one thing I will never, ever forget is Macy telling me that you REALLY CAN just decide things. I’m sorry, but that’s the most groundbreaking thing I’ve ever heard.
Decide it is going to work. Decide you are going to give your all. Decide that you love the light fixture. Decide that what you’re doing is right. Decide that you’re going to run that race.
