Interview Like Alex Cooper
What Makes the Call Her Daddy Host One of the Best (and how you can tap into it too)
Alex Cooper, the most listened to female podcaster in the world and host of Call Her Daddy, has signed a 3-year $125 million deal with SirusXM.
Mattress goals.
The deal includes exclusive advertising rights for her show as well as the shows on the network she launched last year: Unwell Network.
(Alix Earle hosts a podcast in Alex’s Unwell Network. We’ve talked about her allure, too.)
This is deal monumental for ANY podcaster, not just a woman. And it comes well-deserved, as Cooper’s publicist told People Magazine that Alex is essentially a “one woman operation,” who researches and edits episodes herself.
Call Her Daddy offers unhinged and unfiltered advice that makes a introverted millennial blush. But the thing that has separated Alex from the pack is her big-time celebrity interviews.
I can’t claim to be in the #DaddyGang, what Cooper lovingly calls her super-fans, but I do watch the expertly trimmed TikTok clips that leave me wanting more every time.
E! News and other networks would kill to get the stories from A-listers that Alex brings listeners every week.
They not only agree to an interview… but they’re spilling piping hot TEA while they’re there.
It was Cooper who got Haley Bieber to talk about her relationship with Selena Gomez….
Miley Cyrus told Cooper intimate details of her past relationships…
Jamie Lynn Spears spoke out about Britney’s conservatorship…
Jane Fonda detailed her struggle with an eating disorder…
Lisa Vanderpump went full Bravo tell-all just for fun…
It doesn’t take more than a few 3-minute TikTok clips to show that Alex is a master of her craft.
While most of us aren’t trying to talk about literal swingers on the air, I bet none of us would hate being known as the girl with the best podcast interviews. 👀
3 Ways to Start Interviewing Like Alex Cooper (even if your content isn’t R rated):
#1. Serve Empathy
An easy way to make people feel like they can tell you anything is to not be the worst when they actually do. Alex is able to listen to some of the most insane stories and she nods like, yes this isn’t weird at all I’m sure it happens all the time. She has an uncanny ability to take on the other person’s perspective.
If people feel safe and not judged by telling you their deepest, darkest truths.. it’s a lot more likely you’ll hear them.
#2. Comfort is King
I know Alex’s closet is absolutely STACKED with luxury, but the token outfit for her podcast interviews is a sweatsuit. She exudes comfort and no one can make me believe that it’s on accident. The goal for Call Her Daddy is girls night gossip, so she sets the environment to feel like… girls night.
Do you need to swap the interrogation desk for a plush pair of comfy chairs? Maybe or maybe not! Always consider the goal of the interview when you set the environment. I know in-person is not always doable, but jump on the opportunity when it is.
#3. Not Married to Anything
Alex has a list of well-researched questions, but she’s totally cool if she doesn’t get to use them. According to Cooper, going “off track” can actually be the secret sauce, especially when you can identify a person’s passions and give them space to talk about those things.
Going into each interaction with genuine curiosity about the person instead of your agenda will never not pay off. Psssst, this doesn’t just go for podcast interviews.
“I want to have the biggest podcast in the world,” Alex went on record saying in 2021.
We love to see a girl who’s well on her way.
