One Way to Set Yourself Apart as a Female Entrepreneur

She Didn't Close the Sale, but She Won My Heart

Me when I was checking my email and realized an artist accidentally emailed me a sales masterclass.

Here’s what happened.

I’ve been on the hunt for an artist to paint a custom piece for a friend’s office.

It’s a very specific vision.

Masculine energy with feminine design elements. Abstract, but clear. Meaningful and eye-catching. Moody, but colorful.

It will be so easy for the right person to nail it, but it’s definitely not a job that just anyone with a paintbrush could or would want to do.

I found someone who I thought might fit the bill and submitted a form on her website to talk about commissioned pieces.

My hopes were high.

A few hours later, I got this reply:

Did I just get turned down?

Absolutely iconic way to tell me no. I’m so serious.

I immediately looked at the portfolio of her recommendation and met with her 3 days later.

I got this text after our first call about the project:

She was right. She’s the better (and perfect) fit.

If you started doing ONE THING today, make it this:

Seeing sales as guiding people to the decision that is best for them, whether it’s YOU OR NOT.

Not only did the first artist save me time, but she thoughtfully connected me with an artist who is the girl for the job.

Because of this, I am quite literally trying to come up with a way to work with the first gal. I’m writing an email about her to 2000 of my closest friends.

The truth is, I probably wouldn’t even remember her name again if she had just said, “No that’s not really my expertise unfortunately. Good luck, though!”

A very clear and kind rejection.

That’s when I realized: We don’t always remember nice people. We remember helpful people.

Nice AND helpful? You put yourself in a league of your own.
