Opportunists, but make it a compliment
Today’s Salesgirl Social was supposed to be about something else.
It was written. Moments from being en route to you.
And I went to write a PS about something very cool that happened at the Marketing Matters Summit today…
(This newsletter IS the group chat, I’m telling you.)
‘Opportunist of the Week’ is what the PS segment was going to be called.
Opportunist has to be a badge of honor, right? Seeing opportunities and acting on them? What could be more of a predictor of success? The segment was supposed to be a compliment!
Because we are Salesgirls, I looked up the word. Just to see if there was something I was possibly missing.
🔥 HOT TIP: If you’re not looking up the definition, synonyms and antonyms of every word that crosses your mind, there is a goldmine right under your nose. It’s the best hack I can give you, specifically when you’re coming up with a title for something or want to be thrown a quick content bone.
I gasped.
WHY IS IT RESERVED FOR LITERAL ROBBERS?
All I’m saying is I think society made it up.
I think you can be an opportunist and not burglarize homes or run for office. Nobody is exploiting anyone here.
I think being an opportunist SHOULD be a compliment and in Salesgirl Social, it’s gonna be.
With that being said….
OPPORTUNIST OF THE WEEK
TAYLOR FROM 1-800-BAM-TREE
I doubt that it has ever rained harder than it did yesterday. And here we were pulling up to the Marketing Matters Summit.
The news headline would’ve read:
250 business women dressed to the 9s become drowned rats in Alpharetta, GA
Our host, Ashley Brock, took the stage to make an announcement.
“Someone has just delivered 300 pink umbrellas from 1-800-BAM-TREE. Please grab one at lunch!”
UMBRELLAS? PINK? FROM A TREE SERVICE COMPANY? THE WAY I SCREAMED????
Not because I was wringing my shirt out, but because we had just witnessed marketing greatness.
Why did they even have 300 pink umbrellas??? She couldn’t have had this planned longer than 10 days in advance and the weather app has quite literally never been right so even that is a stretch!
I don’t need a tree cut down but maybe I can find one???
Can anyone put me in touch with Taylor so I can get the full story for us? I know you’ve found your BFF’s ex-boyfriend’s sister’s cousin with less information. Ready… go!
Don’t call me an opportunist if you’re trying to hurt my feelings. You won’t hurt Taylor’s either. Always on the hunt for an opportunity.
