Who are the Savannah Bananas?
K-Club Member breaks it down for us
“If I see one more video of men doing choreographed dances in a baseball uniforms, I’m gonna be forced to find out what’s going on.” - Me
Thankfully, I didn’t have to search too hard, because it turns out our Head of Logistics and resident #BaseballMom has the scoop on the organization that’s shaking up sports.
What if I just called Taylor up…
What’s going on in Savannah, Georgia anyways? Britt breaks it down for us ⬇️
There’s a chance you’ve seen them play an inning or two on ESPN.
You may have even been lucky enough to snag coveted tickets to their 2024 World Tour.
But who are the Savannah Bananas (think: Harlem Globetrotters of Baseball), and how has this team with its roots in the Coastal Plain League captivated the hearts of America?
As a card-carrying member of the Bananas K-Club (only the greatest fan club in all of sports imo) I could go on and on about the beauty of the Savannah Bananas…
the all-inclusive $35 ticket at their home field of Grayson Stadium…
their beloved dancing Banana-Nanas…
the fast-paced and entertaining game of Banana Ball…
But let’s be real, you didn’t open Salesgirl Social this morning to read my obsessive ramblings, now did you?
3 Ways We Should Be More Like the Bananas (without learning dances together but like we can if ya’ll want to, lmk):
#1. Prepare with Precision
I bet you’ll never look at a yellow tuxedo the same again (again? wdym I’ve never seen one until now) when I tell you that the Bananas owner, Jesse Cole, doesn’t just own one - he owns seven.
When he slips into the tux each day, he knows that it’s show time whether he’s sitting down for a podcast interview or kicking off “the greatest game on earth!” in front of 42,000 fans in a sold out Nationals stadium.
#2. Embrace Individuality:
Sure, Banana Ball is technically baseball. But have you ever seen a baseball team play in kilts? What about a pitcher on 10 foot stilts? Let’s be real - everything that the Bananas do - well, it shouldn’t work in the game of baseball.
But it does. Wildly, so.
Their branding is playful, distinctive, and memorable, which sets them apart in a crowded market. Find what makes your offer different, and amplify it.
#3. Drive Innovation:
Banana Ball started with a simple “what if?”
What if…
…we were able to keep fans in the stadium for rate whole game?
…we could play a whole game in 120 minutes?
…we could change the way people view baseball?
Banana Ball is a bold reimagining of traditional baseball with rules designed to enhance entertainment and engagement. (I mean, I’ve never seen a batter steal first at a Braves game?)
In a market full of similar offers, don’t be afraid to ask “what if”, step outside of the box, and find new ways to attract clients.
While the Bananas are busy getting millions of likes on TikTok and selling out Major League stadiums, all of us at home are adding the live experience to our bucket lists.
The window for 2024 tickets has closed, but join the waitlist to be the first to hear when 2025 tickets are released.
Until then, I’ll settle for another 18 watches of this.
