Self-Employed Propaganda I Will Not Fall For
Learn AI in 5 minutes a day
What’s the secret to staying ahead of the curve in the world of AI? Information. Luckily, you can join 1,000,000+ early adopters reading The Rundown AI — the free newsletter that makes you smarter on AI with just a 5-minute read per day.
I’m sure you’ve seen the “propaganda I’m not falling for” trend.
By the time this newsletter hits your inbox it will probably be long gone and replaced by something else, but it’s all I see right now.
If you’re not chronically online and have no idea what I’m talking about, let me help you out.
You get the idea.
Just to make sure I understood the assignment correctly, I googled the official definition of propaganda…
“Information, especially of a biased or misleading nature, used to promote or publicize a particular political cause or point of view.”
And with that, here is self-employed propaganda I will personally not be falling for:
A strict 9-5 schedule
Dressing up to work from my couch
Working on the weekend
Hustle culture
Taking on free work for “exposure”
Instagram business account
Replacing copywriters with ChatGPT
Glorification of busy
Viewing peers as competition
Ghosting
Answering emails on vacation
And the list could go on.
Everyone’s list is different. I feel strongly about mine.
I love that my job allows me the freedom to work when I want to, take vacation when I want to, and work in sweats if I so please.
The beauty of being my own boss means that I get to make the rules and not a single one of them has to make sense to anyone but me.
I used to pressure myself to be at my computer by 9am sharp every morning, until I was like wait…for who? I’m not a morning person (never have been) so my most productive work gets done in the afternoon. Now, my mornings are reserved for sleeping in, coffee, walking, working out, and reading or journaling.
The rhythm of my work flow actually regulates and supports my nervous system.
What a concept.
All that to say – if you enjoy a structured 9-to-5 schedule then by all means, go make Dolly Parton proud. If dressing up and getting ready to sit in your home office makes you feel more productive, then break out the paint suit and impress your pets.
After all, it is your life! Your career! Your rules!
