A Statement on Sneex by Sara Blakely
Tell Us How You Really Feel
Get in… we’re going there.
Sara Blakely, founder of Spanx and queen of our hearts, has launched her second invention.
It’s a “luxury hybrid stiletto” called Sneex and it has the Internet (and our instagram DMs) all up in arms.
My birth announcement didn’t get this many replies.
If you can believe it, Social’s DMs were nothing compared to the comments on the Sneex Instagram page.
I know that Social Media Intern is tired.
There are a couple of unique takes, but the general consensus is that you hate the shoes.
“I keep thinking Ashton Kutcher is going to jump out at any moment and tell us we’re all on Punk’d,” one follower says.
“Is it ugly on purpose to create launch buzz?” had me crying.
A lot of folks are feeling torn between loving Sara Blakely and total confusion at a heel looking like a Rack Room Sketcher for $600.
Understandably so.
Did Sara not ask the women what we wanted them to look like? Did she not ask us how much we would be willing to pay?
How could the scrappy, female entrepreneur pioneer, started-at-the-bottom Sara do this? I THOUGHT SHE WAS JUST LIKE US!
First of all, she WAS just like us…
And then she invented shape wear that would change the lives of millions of women with $5,000 in her bank account…
… then she sold the shape wear from her living room… then she stood by the Spanx display in Neiman Marcus selling directly to customers... then Oprah announced Spanx was her favorite product of the year… then Spanx was featured on QVC and sold over 8,000 units in less than 6 minutes…
Sara sold her beloved Spanx in 2021 for over a billion dollars.
She was just like us.
From my perspective, Sneex is probably for her more than it is for us. And that is amazing. If she’s the only person who ever wears Sneex (though I’m sure she won’t be), they will have been a roaring success.
She’s earned the right to clown as much or as little as she’d like. I’m not mad… I’m inspired.
Am I going to spend $600 on them?
Probably not.
Do I hope that we all find such great success in life that we can launch something we love without caring what anyone else thinks because our bills are already paid?
Absolutely.
