Stirring the Pot

how applebee's got a stale business moving

Imagine getting a Valentine’s present from your honey.

Now imagine it’s a riblet basket and spinach dip.

50% of you just gagged and the other 50% thought let’s gooooooo.

I will leave it to your imagination which camp I am in.

Applebee’s has released a first-of-it’s-kind date night subscription

This week, you can purchase the Applebee’s Date Night Pass for $200.

Actually, make that COULD* purchase. Because the offer sold out in less than a minute.

The Date Night Pass offers those who were lucky enough to snag their subscription a $30 date night credit weekly for the entire year. That’s a value of $1500 and a potential savings of $1360 over the course of 52 weeks.

With that savings, you could actually buy this Prada bag for no charge. Totally free. Girl math, I don’t make the rules.

Everyone was laughing and now we’re a little sad we missed it, huh?

This is a classic demonstration of what Salesgirls call “stirring the pot.”

Even the best soup in the world gets stuck to the bottom of the pot from time to time. So you can imagine how often middle-of-the-road-chain-sports-bar soup needs to be stirred.

This promotion earned Applebee’s a top trending spot on the Twitter charts (I told y’all I’m not calling it X), a feature on all major news stations and more web traffic than I can only assume they have literally ever seen.

Stir baby, stir.

Since Applebee’s all beat us to the Date Night Pass punch, here are some of our OTHER favorite ways to stir the pot when business feels stale:

  • Host an event (live or virtual)

  • Shoot your shot with someone (or several someones) you dream of working with

  • Ask to be on a podcast

  • Do a challenge*

  • Work at a new coffee shop

  • Initiate conversation with someone you normally wouldn’t

  • Start a newsletter

  • Join a mastermind

The soup hasn’t gone bad, the pot might just need a stir.

Chili’s, it’s your move.

Xo, The Salesgirls

*The next Sell Your Offer Challenge kicks off on February 19 and has been called “Red Bull for your business.” I did not make that up, but I can confirm pots get STIRRED up in there.
