The Business Lies We’ve All Believed

April Fools edition for the girls who’ve wised up

It’s April Fools’ Day, which feels like the perfect time to revisit some of the straight-up nonsense women in business have been fed over the years.

(It’s also a good time to remind you that April Fools jokes are OUT. Life is scary enough, we aren’t tricking each other recreationally anymore.)

Today, we’re breaking down a few of the most well-meaning but wildly unhelpful business mantras, and what to believe instead:

LIE #1: “Charge what you’re worth.”
You are priceless. Your offer is not.
Pricing should reflect transformation, demand, and results - not your worth as a human. Otherwise, how would you explain $7.99 drugstore lipstick that slaps?

What to believe instead: Price for value, not validation.

LIE #2: “If it’s meant to be, it’ll happen.”
That sounds lovely, but also? That’s how people stay stuck for 4 years in a Canva doc they never launch.

What to believe instead: If it’s meant to be, you’ll make it happen.

LIE #3: “Just focus on your passion.”
Let’s be clear: we love passion. But you know what else is fun? Profit.
Not every passion is a business, and not every business is a passion project. The goal is aligned and income-generating.

What to believe instead: Follow your passion… but also your data.

LIE #4: “You need to be high-vibe to sell.”
We love getting ready. Not because it’s “high-vibe,” but because it gets attention and makes us feel good. Plus, when you show you take care of you, people believe you’ll take care of them.

But you know what really sells? Having a Cartier watch. Being sold. On your offer. On the results. On your ability to help someone. Energy matters, but conviction closes.

What to believe instead: You don’t need to be high-vibe, you need to be convinced.

LIE #5: “You can manifest your dream life from your living room.”
Sure, you can. You can also manifest plantar fasciitis from pacing around waiting on a miracle.

What to believe instead: The dream life is gonna require a dream work ethic.

If you’ve believed any of these, congrats! You’re not alone. Most of us had to un-learn just as much as we had to learn. But once you do? You stop falling for the lies and start building a business that actually works.

Which one got you the worst? Reply and tell us. We’ll be over here lighting a candle for all the time we lost thinking our “worth” was $37 and a thank you note.
