In high school I spent my birthday money to buy a pair of Toms shoes that said “the journey is the destination”.

I wore them until they had holes in them (and quite honestly until I couldn't figure out how to stop them from stinking) and those shoes live rent free in my mind today.

Looking back, the fact that I bought shoes with that message in as a 16 year old should have told me everything I needed to know about the path I’m on now.

I ditched my career as an English teacher almost 2 years ago to dive into entrepreneurship. One side hustle turned into like 5 and I realized I had to quit, scale back, or full send. I’ve been on a path of full sending for the last 6 months or so and let me tell you: The Journey IS The Destination.

I cannot tell you how many times I’ve cried because foraging a new path is hard

Or felt dumb because I didn’t know something

Or burned the blue light oil while nobody else was awake

Or celebrated learning how to do something new

Or felt like nobody in my real life understands what I do

Or invested in myself because I needed to level up even though it was scary

The journey IS the destination. It’s all part of the plot.

Many times we feel like we should have “arrived” and forget that we are living in the process that will get us to the payoff we want.

Here’s the real truth though: if you’re a person committed to growth you know that there never really is a destination. There are only landmarks you hit on your journey to whatever is next.

I’ll leave you with this: Every great hero has an origin story, and it’s very likely that you’re living yours right now. I cannot wait to see what you do with it.

& because I know you’re wondering, here’s a picture of the Toms that can now live rent free in your mind.

Enjoy the journey.
