2024 Grammy Awards Recap from The Salesgirls
And yet ANOTHER business lesson from Taylor Swift?!
The Grammy Awards have been recognizing outstanding achievements in the music industry for 66 years.
Sunday night’s show was one of the more entertaining in recent history… Some even calling it an “all-time great.”
I wouldn’t consider myself a Grammys buff, but what I do know is that I was rarely bored and never appalled which says a lot for an award show in 2024.
If we HAD to pick our top 5 moments, in no particular order, they would be:
Tracy Chapman and Luke Combs ‘Fast Car’ performance
Miley Hannah Montana Cyrus winning her 1st Grammy and having viewers audibly laughing at her raw realness
Show host, Trevor Noah, left the sarcasm at home and went heavy on making people feel great about themselves (he must’ve read Salesgirl Social’s take on the no-so-Golden Globes)
Billy Joel performed his first new song in 30 years (If you love stories, you have to read this one.)
Taylor Swift wins Album of the Year AND makes the surprise announcement of a new album, The Tortured Poet’s Department
Incredible moments from start to finish.
Speaking of finish, you may or may not know that Album of the Year is the biggest award of the night and thus is the final one of the night to be presented.
Taylor’s win for “The Big Award” put her at the top of yet another page in the record books. The only artist EVER to win Album of the Year 4 times.
Prior to her win, she was tied at 3 with Frank Sinatra, Stevie Wonder and Paul Simon.
No big deal?
VERY big deal.
And still, people have their questions.
What is with this girl? How is she everywhere? Are her songs even that good? Does she sleep?
In my opinion, she revealed the answer to those questions (plus a lot about her character and the best news ever for her fans) in her acceptance speech.
“I would love to tell you that this is the best moment of my life, but I feel this happy when I finish a song or when I crack the code to a bridge that I love or when I’m shot-listing a music video or when I’m rehearsing with my dancers or my band or getting ready to go to Tokyo to play a show.
For me, the award is the work. All I want to do is keep being able to do this. I love it so much. It makes me so happy. It makes me unbelievably blown away that it makes some people happy who voted for this award too. All I want to do is keep doing this.”
“The award is the work” answers every question you have about Taylor Swift’s astronomical success.
What is with this girl? She loves it.
How is she everywhere? She enjoys the journey.
Are her songs even that good? Subjective, but what isn’t is that they resonate with a LOT of people.
Does she sleep? Less seems like more when you’re excited to get up.
It’s not trivial. It’s the same principles you hear from just about everyone who experiences the summits of success. At least those who reach the top and stay there for any amount of time.
I doubt you or I are going to be called “the most powerful woman in the world” by anyone except the lucky spouses who live with us.
But what we can be is unapologetically in love with the work that it takes to move our worthy missions forward.
All I want to do is keep doing this.
