The Mistakes That Made Me

I officially hit five years of freelancing this year. 

If today was day one of my self-employed journey, this is what I would do differently.

…

nothing. 

Knowing what I know now, I honestly wouldn’t go back and change a thing.

Here’s why. 

When you start anything new, you must fail. You must let yourself get it wrong. You must give yourself permission to be a student, not an expert. 

The journey of freelancing, self-employment, being your own boss, or starting your own business is going to come with lessons. Some will be easier to bounce back from than others. 

You are allowed to not know what you’re doing. 

Through the mistakes, what you will earn is grit and confidence and an unwavering belief in yourself that whatever goes wrong, you always hold the ability to figure it out. 

If you’re just beginning, you’re not just building a brand, you’re also building a level of resilience you’d never have if every answer or decision was handed to you on a silver platter. 

Whether today is day one or you’re in the thick of year five and still making mistakes…good. We are all right where we’re supposed to be.
