Why I Really Left the 9-5

The Freedom to Nap

There’s a lot of reasons I could never go back to a 9-5 office job.

Dress code.

Cubicles.

Small talk in elevators.

Small talk in the break room.

Sitting at my desk pretending to work.

Etc. etc. etc.

But the real motivation that gets me out of bed in the morning is the promise that at any point throughout my workday I can just get back in the bed.

Let’s be real, ladies.

You cannot tell me you don’t have days when you’re just staring at your screen, pretending to work and clicking your mouse around because it feels productive.

That’s when I know that my brain is tapped out.

Pretending to work? …for who?

Sometimes I just need a midday brain break. And, sometimes, that means shutting my laptop and taking myself back to bed because at what point did we adult-led wean ourselves off of an afternoon snooze?

And I tell you what, I’ve never once felt guilty about it.

Taking a break to give my body the rest it wants, giving myself permission to unsubscribe from the “grind”, staying in tune with my nervous system and checking out instead of pushing through exhaustion that leads to burnout?

Yeah, that’s actually the kind of boss I want to be for myself.

Leading me also means taking care of me because freelancing = freedom.

Freedom = giving myself the gift of a nap, without having to earn it.

10000/10 recommend.
