Women Love True Crime
Why, though? And how can we use the life principle to gain an advantage as business women?
Tell me more…
Not every woman loves true crime, but everyone that loves true crime is a woman.
I know I’m writing about this around spooky szn, but the truth of the matter is that the girls are consuming true crime year round. What is going on?
How can we all talk about how much we love shows like Nobody Wants This and then also watch 5 hours of Dateline? The math is seemingly not mathing…
I’ve set out on a quest find out why in the world we can listen to an autopsy report as a means of relaxation…? Just a little something to take the edge off?
Yes, WE!
ME IF LOVING TRUE CRIME IS SICK
Now in sales there’s something called a Dominant Buying Motive. A person’s primary reason or motivation for buying.
One person buys a house for the garage, another for the yard, a third person buy’s that same house for how close it is to her parents.
(The third person would be me).
It would be wild of me to assume that we all love true crime for the same reasons.
So I won’t do that. What I can do is tell you why some women enjoy true crime.
Some women love true crime for the same reasons that Myron Golden went to flight school.
Fear comes from a lack of knowledge and learning eliminates fear.
Julia Davis, editor of Crime Monthly magazine, agrees that this is one motive at play.
“Women are fascinated by true crime because it’s a facing your fears thing. It’s knowledge is power. Your worst possible fear - understanding it, confronting it, knowing everything you can about it. That’s a major thing I hear again and again from women.”
My TikTok comments offered a couple of other perspectives:
I do know.
Now she’s onto something.
For whatever reasons you love or hate it, whether the JonBenét Ramsey case keeps you up at night or you’ve never spent a single second thinking about it: consider using this life principle as a hack to face fears in your own life.
If you’re scared of hiring… research how to recruit, common mistakes employers make, etc.
If you’re scared of flying… research what turbulence actually is and listen to pilots talk about it.
If you’re scared of posting your business on Instagram… research the impact of personal branding and follow people who post in a way that you admire, to show you what’s possible.
If you’re scared of public speaking… research how many of the best speakers you know that are too. Warren Buffet, Julia Roberts and Adele, just to name a few.
If you’re scared of the ocean… well, maybe stay scared of the ocean.
I’m joking sort of.
Understanding something is the very thing that gives you power over it.
And I’m serious who killed JonBenét…
